5 Ways to Strengthen Your Intuition

A rainbow shining through a woman's eyes beneath the title "5 Ways to Strengthen Your Psychic Ability"

A woman went a journey to meet her spirit guides. She wiped the tears from her eyes and asked me, “How do I know if what I saw was intuition or if I was just imagining things?”

The honest answer is that when dealing with the ethereal, it’s often hard to know what to make of everything—particularly when you’re just starting to dive into the deeper layers of your intuition.

It takes time, patience, and reliable patterns to build trust and truly understand how your unique intuition works and how to interpret the information you receive.

That said, I stand firmly by the five following things, which no matter the stage of intuitive development, can always help you strengthen your natural abilities:

1. Befriend Your Imagination

Your intuition is your superpower. And if you want to strengthen it, you have to get to know your imagination. Why? Well, reality has this nasty habit of breaking down in the mind. It can easily get overrun by all sorts of false beliefs. But within it, there is truth. And every so often we are lucky enough to confront it directly.

Once you allow your imagination to run wild, you’ll create open space in your mind for every possible piece of unmeasurable information to make itself known to you. As you open the door to your imagination, you may start in a daydream but in the end, you may find yourself in a vision.

2. Wait for Proof

Don’t blindly believe everything your “intuition” is telling you. Stay skeptical until you receive confirmation that you didn’t just imagine things. Notice when what you’ve intuited is confirmed and when it isn’t. Notice the differences between these times (how they feel emotionally, physically, etc.). Notice how sometimes your intuition is telling you something about your fears versus your future, and slowly, you just may start to understand the different shades and sensations of your inner world. On day, you might even be able to differentiate between it all so quickly and clearly that accurate interpretations rapidly follow almost all of your intuitive experiences. You’ll know when you’re intuiting versus imagining, and your healthy skepticism will be replaced by this beautiful thing called wisdom.

3. Stay Open to Signs

There is a spiritual reality around you, capable of magically reaching through matter to communicate with you specifically. Often, this is done through signs (objects, words, numbers, songs, etc.). You may know (or sense) that something is a sign because of how it grabs your attention. Perhaps because it’s a wild coincidence or perhaps because something like an acorn falls smack on your head or a message is shoved right in front of your face. The reality is: there aren’t single collective meanings to signs! All signs are subjective. The meaning is created between you and Spirit. To begin with signs, ask the universe to send you one. You can be very specific about what you want the sign to be. Then, be patient, and know that by simply opening your mind to the possibility of receiving a sign, you might get even more than you ever thought was possible.

4. Say Your Predictions Out Loud

To really learn the difference between your imagination and your intuition, you have to be brave enough to start acting on your intuition and expressing it out loud. Courageously expressing your intuition is the only way you can truly grow to understand and trust it.

When I started giving people Reiki, I experienced a flood of visions. I worried that it was all just my imagination, so for a while, I kept my mouth shut and didn’t share what I saw. But it wasn’t long before curiosity took over, and I began sharing my visions. Through this, I learned that I was processing real information. For instance, one man came into my office who was worried about money. As I gave him Reiki, I heard his mom (who had passed away) say that she didn’t understand why he was stressed. She told me she’d given him plenty, and she showed me something metal and circular that was tucked in the back of a file cabinet. I shared all of this with him, and he responded: “Oh, the watch! It’s just sitting in the back of my filing cabinet!” He soon learned that it was quite valuable.

So not only can your sharing things help build your confidence, but it can also help other people.

5. Keep a Journal

One of the most powerful ways to strengthen you intuition is to track it. That gut feeling? That prediction? That dream that keeps popping in your head? Write it down! That way, if and when it proves to be something, you will know. Because often, a lot of time passes, and we forget our intuition knowings, or they become blurry at best. It’s hard to believe in a blurry, forgotten thing. But by keeping an intuition journal you can track the accuracy of your intuitions, and you can also start to track how you process things (dreams, gut feelings, hearing things, visions, etc.). You will have a record of what secrets your intuition has shown you, and through this, you can better understand your gifts.
