10 Simple Ways to Bring More Magic into Your Life
Magic is constantly present, but often, we lose touch with it and all it has to offer—awe, clarity, manifestation, good health, and good luck.
To reconnect and nurture real magic in your life, try one (or all) of these daily habits:
1. Journal Your Dreams
When you sleep, you venture into an altered state of existence. Over the course of the average lifetime, this adds up to twenty-six years worth of experiences. Sure, sometimes dreams are just dreams. But sometimes, they’re more. By keeping a dream journal, you can start to decipher which dreams include messages and which ones don’t. As you write each morning, don’t worry about quality, length, or remembering every tiny detail. Just write, and the messages will come through once you find a trend.
2. Meditate, Meditate, Meditate
You don’t have to sit on a cushion to meditate. Meditate while doing the dishes, riding the subway, waiting in line, showering. Any mundane moment can turn into something magical. Not good at meditating? Here’s how: slow down and breathe. Focus your attention on your breath. Focus your attention on your body and any movement you’re making. Tune into your physical senses in the moment rather than thinking about other moments in your mind. It’s okay to start thinking about things. Just let the thoughts keep on moving as you return your attention to your body. By bringing meditation into your life, you will rewire your brain to strengthen your connection to the present moment and the true nature of reality. This is where magic lives.
3. Get Outside and Go for a Walk
Take yourself for a walk each and every day. It doesn’t have to be long a walk. It can last just a few minutes, but getting outside will get you out of your head. By doing this, you free yourself from the grind and start to remember just how free you truly are.
4. Keep Your Phone Away From Your Bed
Is your phone the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing you see at night? If so, turn it to do not disturb, and move that thing away! Give yourself time to exist without the nagging sound of alerts and the nagging mental chatter of wondering how many likes you just got. This can be a hard habit to break, so I recommend investing in an old-fashioned nightstand (alarm) clock. That way you can keep your phone elsewhere in the house.
5. Make Your Space Smell Good
Smell is one of the most powerful senses, and sometimes, lighting a scented candle or inhaling an essential oil (with reverence) is enough to completely shift your connection to your environment. Want to relax? Choose lavender or earthy scents. Want to wake up? Try peppermint or citrus. Want to feel regal? Go for rose. Notice how different scents make you feel. And for an even easier smell boost, hang eucalyptus over your shower head or just boil some cinnamon sticks on the stove. You’ll be smelling the effects in no time.
6. Talk to Plants and Animals
Connecting to plants and animals helps you remember that we’re all intertwined. You may feel silly talking to them. You may think they don’t understand, but just because they don’t know your language doesn’t mean they lack understanding. You’re still producing subtle information (sound waves and more) that they can feel. Some of them will want nothing to do with you. Others will embrace you with excitement. By strengthening your connection to plants and animals, you strengthen your connection to everything, and you gain a greater appreciation for your role in the whole wide world.
7. Dance Yourself Awake
No matter how you feel in the morning, the moment you turn the volume up on one of your favorite songs, it’s hard to keep your body from moving to the beat. So let it move. Not only does get your blood flowing, it gets your soul flowing. By fully expressing yourself this way first thing in the morning, you set the tone for the rest of the day—ready to accept good things!
8. Pull a Card
Take a few minutes each day to pull just one tarot or oracle card (or simply open a book to a random page and see where your eyes land). Through this, you strengthen your connection to the universe and train yourself to notice signs. This daily ritual keeps you engaged. Tarot requires practice to interpret, but oracle decks are great because they often have the message written directly on them. If you’re new to cards, get yourself an oracle deck, or if you want to work with tarot and don’t have a deck, ask the universe to send you one. Be patient, and when it arrives, know that you have been touched by magic.
9. Turn Off the Lights
Electric lighting disconnects us from the natural cycle of day and night. It disconnects us from nature and the universe. So as much as possible, live in natural light, and especially one hour before bed, turn off all your major electric lights. By keeping your space darker, it’ll be easier to get a good night’s sleep. If you need more lumination, light a candle. Perhaps you even keep one on your nightstand, and every night before you go to sleep, you make a wish as you blow it out.
10. Massage Your Hands and Feet
Your hands and feet work so hard every day. You’re using them constantly. An easy way to treat yourself, to love yourself, and to say thank you is to massage your hands and feet. Perhaps you do this every night—massaging in lotion at the end of the day, moving up your calves and in between your toes—all while thanking them (and your entire body for that matter) for their service in helping you live your life.
